Two Composers, Four Hands by Roxanna Panufnik is a 15-minute work for double string orchestra. It was commissioned to celebrate the centenaries of two of Poland's most eminent 20th century composers: Witold Lutolawski (2013) and Roxanna Panufnik’s father, Andrzej Panufnik (2014). The three movements are titled Lutolawski, Panufnik and LutoPanufski. The first two movements capture the musical essence of each composer and the third remembers affectionately the famous piano duo the two composers formed in Warsaw, during the Second World War with variations on a humorous Polish folk song A Posla niewiasta (from the Kraków region).
The work was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland within the programme "Collections &endash; the priority Composers’ Commissions" implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance. The first performance took place on 15 December 2013 at the Philharmonic Concert Hall, Wroclaw, by the Wroclaw Chamber Orchestra Leopoldinum, conducted by Ernst Kovacic.
The full score (EP 72496) is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.
