Composers Notes: I conceived Three Petite Etudes as short miniatures for solo piano that would be played together as a set.
Etude I is built around the D minor 9th chord and explores some technical right hand scale patterns along with some contrasting singing legato lines.
Etude II is more or less free in tempo - I thought of the wonderful Chopin Nocturnes for piano in this Etude with their flowing and nebulous sonorities.
Etude III is basically in the style of a march and based on the single melodic interval of the 5th.
