Günter Neubert's 2nd String Quartet was commissioned by the Leipzig Gewandhaus for the 200th anniversary of the Gewandhaus Quartet. It was premiered at their anniversary concert on 12 October 2008 in the Mendelssohn Hall of the Gewandhaus and broadcast by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. The piece is based on a nine-note row comprising seconds and thirds, and evoking the B-A-C-H motif. The 2nd String Quartet is dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach and is a great addition to the repertoire for string quartet. This new edition consists of score and parts.
