Gegenwind by Carola Bauckholt is a 14-minute work for solo organ and whispering voice, which was written in 2003 in collaboration with the brilliant organist Bernhard Haas to whom it is dedicated. It uses his idea of moving some organ pipes just next to the bore of the pipe stem and placing a pencil point in the bore, which focuses the wind and makes it sound sharper. Blending with the organ is the sound of the voice whispering sharply and as loudly as possible. The piece was inspired by an experience in which organist and page-turner got into a dispute during a concert.
The premiere took place on 17 June 2004 at the St. Martin's Church, Kassel with Bernhard Haas.
This edition (EP 14640) is a facsimile of the manuscript score of Carola Bauckholt.
