Edition Peters is saddened to learn of the passing of Bruce J. Taub on Friday, October 22. The former Head of Publishing at C. F. Peters in New York, he worked at Peters for over 21 years and oversaw the publishing of works by Milton Babbitt, John Cage, George Crumb, Mario Davidovsky, Charles Wuorinen and many others.
Also a composer, Bruce Taub studied composition at Columbia University with Mario Davidovsky, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Jack Beeson, Chou Wen-chung and Charles Dodge, and he studied Indian classical music with Ravi Shankar. In addition to his music for orchestra, solo instruments, and chamber ensemble, he composed music for tape and for computer, music for the ballet stage, and two operas. He has over 30 compositions in the Peters catalogue alone, and his music has been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, the Empyrean Ensemble, Ensemble 21, New York New Music Ensemble, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, and many other groups around the world.
