Back in May, George Crumb’s Metamorphoses
premiered in Washington D.C. performed by pianist Margaret Leng Tan. Metamorphoses
marks the first major piano piece composed by Crumb in over 40 years. The piece, written for Tan, is an homage to Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition
and is based on a series of paintings. On Wednesday, November 8th, the Barnes Foundation will host the Philadelphia premiere in a concert that will also include the works of John Cage and Henry Cowell.
Mr. Crumb will be attendance and the galleries will be open to audience members before the concert. Please visit the Event Page for more information and a podcast dedicated to the piece. Also, below is a trailer created for the world premiere back in May 2017.
