Toby Hession

Toby Hession (b. 1997) comes from Peterborough, and resides in Cambridgeshire. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Music from Clare College, Cambridge; he currently remains at Clare where he is reading for an MPhil in composition, whilst holding the position of Lay Clerk in the world-renowned Choir of Clare College. For two years he has been an assistant conductor for the Cambridge University Musical Society (CUMS), working with distinguished visiting conductors such as Sir Mark Elder and Ben Gernon, and has been named Conducting Scholar for the 2018-19 season. Between 2010 and 2015 he attended Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, studying piano with the acclaimed Japanese virtuoso Masayuki Tayama (with whom he continues to study), and composition with Drs. Gavin Wayte and Jeremy Pike. He now studies composition with Richard Causton (other tutors have included Graham Ross, James Olsen, and Patrick Brennan), and is an Edition Peters composer. He currently studies conducting with David Hill.
