Contents:  Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was born in Thionville (in Lorraine, France) on December 23, 1689; he died in Roissy-en-Brie on October 28, 1755. He was the composer of instrumental music, cantatas, opera ballets, and vocal music. Boismortier was purely a composer, and among the first to have no patrons; he made his living entirely as a composer.
