Contents:  Leopold Auer was born in Veszprem (Hungary) on June 7th, 1845. He was a child prodigy, making his debut with the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in e minor at a very early age. During his career, he performed, taught, and lived in Budapest, Vienna, Hanover (where he studied with Joseph Joachim, for whom Brahms composed his Violin Concerto and Double Concerto for Violin and Violoncello), Duesseldorf, Hamburg, Saint Petersburg (Russia, where he lived for 49 years!), Philadelphia, and New York City. Auer died on July 15th, 1930, and is interred in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
