György Ligeti (1923-2006)
Hungarian composer György Ligeti is unquestionably one of the great composers of our time. In most fields of composition he has discovered new means of expression. Many of his works contain an almost Haydn-like sense of fun. He has been variously influenced by his immediate Hungarian musical forefathers, the Western avant-garde, the American experimental tradition (the player-piano music of Conlon Nancarrow) and non-European musical traditions (including Caribbean, central African and Asian). Peters Edition publishes six classic works by Ligeti from the 1960s. |
