Halim El-Dabh

El-Dabh passes away at age 96.
Halim El-Dabh, the composer and ethnomusicologist, died at his home in Kent, Ohio on Saturday on September 2, 2017. He was 96.
Halim joined us at Peters in 1959, and he remained in contact with us up until his final days. He was Egyptian and many of his works employed elements of the music of his home country. He was quite prolific and Peters publishes nearly forty of his compositions. His most popular work CLYTEMNESTRA was written for the Martha Graham Dance Company. It has been performed extensively throughout the world and was filmed for a PBS special.
Halim taught full time at Kent State from 1969 to 1991, and then part time until 2012. He was a recipient of two Fulbright awards, two Guggenheim Fellowships and two honorary doctorates.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Habeeb, Shadia and Amira.
