Point Counterpoint II

Yo-Yo Ma's Letter to the Editor
Yo-Yo Ma’s Letter to the editor of the New York Review of Books has created a much needed stir in the creative community. Ma’s letter referred to a review about the architect Louis Kahn who was commissioned in the late 1960s by Robert Boudreau (conductor of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra) to build a floating concert hall. Kahn’s ship Point Counterpoint II set sail in 1976 in honor of the Bicentennial. Since then the concert barge has graced the waterways of America, the Caribbean, Baltic and Irish seas as well as the rivers of Northern Europe. Boudreau turned 90 this year and has announced that he and his wife are no longer able to keep the barge running. Until they find a suitable care giver, the barge is destined to be turned into scrap in a Louisiana Shipyard.
Yo-Yo Ma’s letter has sparked plenty of interest to keep the barge alive and running. To read his letter please visit The New York Review of Books website.
