We are sad to announce that our composer, Ursula Mamlok, passed away on Wednesday 4 May.
Born in Berlin in 1923, she emigrated to Ecuador because of her Jewish ancestry in 1939. The same year she moved to New York where she studied composition with some of the leading figures of contemporary music, developing a very personal compositional style. Ursula taught at the Manhattan School of Music for more than 40 years and received numerous awards for her wide-ranging musical oeuvre. In 2006 she returned to her hometown Berlin where she died at the age of 93.
We have lost a unique musical voice as well as a wonderful person.
