Tonight at Carnegie Hall, Marc-André Hamelin will be performing the New York premiere of his Pavane Variée. The program will also include an interesting variety of works by Mozart, Ravel, Busoni, and Liszt. Pavane Variée is a set of variations on Thoinet Arbeau’s (1520-1595) Belle qui tiens ma vie. According to Hamelin’s personal recollection, he heard the piece performed by the King’s Singers and the melody has “haunted” him ever since. In 2014, Hamelin was given the chance to write a set of variations on that haunting melody for the ADR International Music Competition. Edition Peters is proud to sell this piece and you may purchase a copy of it at the following link.
