Three US Academic institutions are presenting operas by Jonathan Dove this season
In January the community opera Tobias and the Angel, with a libretto by David Lan, was performed by Princeton Opera Theater in a double bill with Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Speaking of his admiration for the score, Gabriel Crouch, senior lecturer in music at Princeton University said, “it has everything you could want from a great opera: love, death, melodrama, redemption – and phenomenally good music and melody.”
On 12 February 2015, Jonathan DOVE and his librettist Alasdair Middleton will be in Baltimore to introduce their chamber opera Mansfield Park adapted from the novel by Jane Austen, for ten singers and piano (four hands). The Peabody Chamber Opera, John Hopkins University will present four performances.
And on 10 May 2015 the Mannes Opera Young Artists in New York present a complete, fully staged performance of Jonathan Dove’s Flight, with a libretto by April de Angelis in collaboration with the Mannes Orchestra and Parsons, The New School for Design.
