Featured in Award-Winning WPC Performance and New Bridge Records Release
David Rakowski's series of piano Études have recently been the subject of considerable attention for their inclusion as recital choices in the World Piano Competition, with A Gliss is Just a Gliss winning the award for best performance of an American work. Watch the competition videos below for a sample of the composer's idiosyncratic style at its best.
Additionally, Rakowski and pianist Amy Briggs have been preparing a recording of the Études for forthcoming release on Bridge Records. Click here to see a few videos of the recording process, including one shot from the pianist's perspective and an uproarious performance of Not.
Finally, for the non-competition-oriented pianist, Edition Peters also offers a new issue of the composer's Easy Études. The collection contains pieces from across the mutliple Étude books which were designed for playability by the non-professional musician, including Quietude, one of the pieces recorded by Amy Briggs and featured in the link above.
