C.F. Peters was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of William Duckworth on September 13, 2012. Mr. Duckworth was first published by Peters in 1981. The first publication was the volume set of TIME CURVE PRELUDES for solo piano. These PRELUDES were well received by musicians, critics and the public, and they have been recorded a number of times (Neely Bruce, Lovely Music LCD 2031; Bruce Brubaker, Arabesque Recordings Z6806; R. Andrew Lee, Irritable Hedgehog Music IMH003) and have been used in remixes and on film soundtracks. In 1998 Peters published Mr. Duckworth’s SOUTHERN HARMONY, his reimagining of the hymns from shaped-note tradition. This four book collection of twenty hymns has been recorded in its entirety by the Gregg Smith Singers (Lovely Music LCD 2033) and excerpted by Boston Secession on their CD, Surprised by Beauty (Brave Records Brav0720). Mr. Duckworth was a widely recognized and beloved composer, writer about music and music educator, and his absence will be felt by the music community throughout the world.
There will be a memorial for Mr. Duckworth held at The South Loft at Westbeth (enter at 463 West Street) New York, NY 10014 on Friday, September 28th, 2012 from 5 to 8 PM. Creative expression is welcome. If you wish to break the silence, please bring what you need to do so.
