Anders Hillborg featured as guest composer at The University of Toronto's Beyond Sound Festival
The University of Toronto’s Beyond Sound Festival, taking place from 22 January to 5 February this year, has selected Anders Hillborg as its guest composer. Hillborg and his works will appear in concerts, public talks and discussions. A concert on 28 January will be entirely devoted to his work, including King Tide for orchestra, two motets for choir, and the Paulinesisk Procession for wind band and inflatable doll.
The festival comes hot on the heels of some notable successes for Hillborg in 2011. November saw the world premiere of a large-scale work for chorus and orchestra: Sirens was performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and soloists Hila Plitmann and Anne Sofie von Otter, under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen. The performance followed the release of a new, critically-acclaimed recording of works by Hillborg on the BIS label (BIS-SACD1406), which has been variously described as ‘very strongly recommended’ (Gramophone) and ‘undoubtedly...one of the best SACDs of 2011’ (Opus Haute Définition).
