Chester Biscardi’s music has been featured at the Gaudeamus Festivalin Rotterdam, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in England,Moscow Autumn, Music Today-Japan in Tokyo, the Lincoln CenterOut-of-Doors Festival, the North American New Music Festival inBuffalo, the Festival of New American Music in Sacramento, PiccoloSpoleto, the International Guitar Festival of Morelia, and the Bienalof São Paulo, Brazil. Performances of his music have also beensponsored by the American Composers Orchestra, the BBC-London, theChamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Gothia PercussionEnsemble of Sweden, the Houston Symphony, the National FluteAssociation, the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, the Orchestra dellaRadiotelevisione Italiana in Rome, and UNESCO/International MusicCouncil.

Biscardi’s catalog includes works for opera, chorus, voice and piano,orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo piano, as well as incidentalmusic for theater, dance, and television. His work is published by C.F. Peters, Merion Music, Inc. of Theodore Presser Company, andBiscardi Music Press; vocal music is distributed by Classical VocalReprints. Recordings appear on the Albany, Bridge, CRI (New WorldRecords), Intim Musik (Sweden), New Albion, New Ariel, North/SouthRecordings, and Sept Jardins (Canada) labels. He is a Yamaha Artist.

Biscardi is a recipient of the Rome Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, anIves Scholarship from the American Academy and Institute of Arts andLetters, the Aaron Copland Award, fellowships from the BogliascoFoundation, the Djerassi Foundation, the Japan Foundation, theMacDowell Colony, and the Rockefeller Foundation (Bellagio), as wellas grants from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard, the Martha BairdRockefeller Foundation, Meet the Composer, the National Endowment forthe Arts, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Born in l948 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he received an M.A. in ItalianLiterature and an M.M. in Musical Composition from the University ofWisconsin-Madison and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale. He isDirector of the Music Program at Sarah Lawrence College, where heholds the William Schuman Chair in Music.

Most recently, he received a 2007 Award in Music from the AmericanAcademy of Arts and Letters, which honors outstanding artisticachievement and acknowledges four composers each year who have arrivedat his or her own voice.
