Objectives

Although the objects of the Trust are widely drawn, the Trustees have decided for the time being to concentrate on assisting in the 'written' areas of music, that is, assisting contemporary composition and its performance, and musical research. The Trustees are aware that financial assistance is often necessary in order to create opportunities for both composition and research.

They are equally aware that the results of composition or research need to be made known and that financial assistance is often necessary for the production of performance materials, for the publication of the results of research and for the performance of new compositions to take place (usually regarded as certain to involve losses for concert promoters and others involved in this field).

Comments

The Trustees have noted that in a number of applications they have been invited to make a grant equal to the total cost of the project where a commercial organisation has a specific interest whether as a publisher or as an impresario. While the Trustees are prepared to consider making grants in such circumstances towards the cost of a project which is essentially non-commercial, they will always have greater sympathy for those projects where the organisation involved is making some contribution towards the risk.

The Trustees will be pleased to receive applications for assistance with projects that fall within these terms, and such applications may come from individuals, organisations, or other charities. The Trustees do not wish to consider applications for which there are existing official schemes of help, but rather to devote their efforts to areas at present neglected.
